Located on the south-west coast of India, Kerala is a tropical region deemed by many travellers as India’s state of serenity and beauty that really does offer something for everyone. Kerala is far from the metropolises of India, and provides a more relaxed and peaceful experience for travellers, where it’s possible to soak up culture, heritage and cuisine whilst being immersed in stunning scenery. The region boasts a breath-taking landscape of rice paddies, gorgeous backwaters and forests brimming with wildlife. It lines the Arabian Sea with 600km of coastline filled with sandy beaches perfect for relaxing on or exploring.
The friendliness of the local people is something that continually draws travellers to the region, and are known for being down-to-earth, peaceful people. Homestays are a great way to interact with local families and enjoy truly traditional cuisine, providing a unique experience. The most popular region and airport location is the port city of Kochi (Cochin) known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea due its key role in the spice trade. The capital, Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) is situated close to the gorgeous tropical beaches of Kovalam and Varkala. However travellers are also turning their heads to the northern parts of Kerala, which is dotted with serene beaches, fishing villages and temples to capture the imagination.
