Rhys Owen joins Cardiff Airport as Director of Human Resources

Cardiff Airport has appointed Rhys Owen as Director of HR, to lead the Airport’s people strategy and advise the Board and senior management team.

The national airport has set out an ambitious strategic plan to develop the business, by expanding its portfolio of products and services and diversifying its income streams. Recent achievements include the announcement of a takeover in managing operations at St Athan airfield and the passenger services at Anglesey Airport. The HR function has been vital in ensuring the smooth transition of staff to the Cardiff Airport team. Rhys will build on the strengths of the department and advise at a senior level, as the airport continues on its journey of development.

Mr Owen, 34 from Port Talbot, brings with him some fifteen years’ experience of working in human resources positions for notable UK companies, latterly having been in senior positions at Balfour Beatty, Great Western Railway and First Cymru Buses. He specialises in employment law, employee relations, negotiation and organisational development, among other strong skills.

Rhys Owen, Director of HR, said: “I’m honoured and privileged to be joining Cardiff Airport. I am excited at the challenges that lie ahead and working hard to deliver on our people agenda and developing our colleagues. I am looking forward to working with the team to provide advice and support, ensuring the sustainability and future success of our national airport”

Deb Bowen Rees, Chief Executive Officer of Cardiff Airport, added: “I’d like to extend a hugely warm welcome to Rhys. It’s an exciting time for the Airport, there have been many developments and we have great ambitions for the future.

“With these changes come opportunities and challenges and it is imperative that we have a strong senior team to lead our workforce and provide valuable guidance, so that we continue to move in the right direction. I am excited to add an HR specialist at senior level and look forward to working with Rhys.”
